The Internet

The internet was originally created for the government only and not for the people. The government created ARPAnet during the Cold War. They believed Russia could destroy the phone lines in a missile attack and were looking for an alternate source to communicate. Licklider proposed a "galactic network" of computers that could talk to one another. ARPAnet also used "packet switching" which broke down data before sending it so that each packet can take its own route from place to place. Without this method ARPAnet would have been just as vulnerable as the telephone lines. ARPAnet added ALOHAnet in 1971. Eventually, Transmission Control Protocol was created by Vinton Cerf in the late 1970`s which allowed all the computers on the world`s mini networks to communicate. Berners-Lee made the internet in 1991 into the "web" of information which is the present day internet.

Today the internet is used by almost everyone in the world. Internet provides information for many people. The internet has changed tremendously to encompass not just the government, but also the people. As a result of the present day internet people have instant access to knowledge that would have been difficult or impossible to find previously. Many people use the internet today to communicate and connect with others as well.
In the future, I think the internet will continue to become more and more advanced. In the future the internet will most likely become faster and will contain a lot more information than it contains today which is probably unimaginable to people today. I think the internet is not yet finished being completely invented. Many more people will find ways to make the internet better. The ideas of multiple people brought the internet together in the first place. With the use of the present internet, thoughts and ideas can be shared much faster and easier with the present day internet users. The internet will become more advanced, but for the moment no one is positive what changes to the internet will be created.
